Help Us Improve
3 Min Read
Mind-body wellness programmes provide the opportunity for multimodal intervention for persons living with mild to moderate dementia, and aim to maintain or improve the cognitive function and overall well-being of participants. Through 3-hour sessions, participants can enjoy activities such as physical exercises, cognitive training or stimulation and social engagement. The Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) has introduced a new kind of programme, the Cognitive Intervention Programme (CIP), as a kind of mind-body wellness programme to provide persons living with dementia with such a multimodal intervention.

Benefits of the Cognitive Intervention Programme (CIP)

Participants in the CIP are engaged through various types of activities including multi-sensory and physical activities. They also have the opportunity to get to know fellow persons living with dementia.

Some of the potential benefits of CIP include:

  • For persons living with dementia
    • Maintain or slow down decline of cognitive function
    • Maintain and improve functional status, social engagement, mood and overall well-being
  • Alleviating caregiver burden

Mdm Ng's Story

Mdm Ng is a participant of CareLibrary, a Cognitive Intervention Programme. CareLibrary is run by the social service agency Care Community Services Society, and is designed for seniors with or at risk of cognitive impairment.

Mdm Ng’s daughter, who is also her caregiver, shared these thoughts about the programme:

“I highly recommend CareLibrary for anyone looking for a supportive and engaging environment for their loved ones. My mother was very reluctant to attend the Library at first, but after her first assessment, she was very comfortable with the environment and staff. Despite needing some coaxing for her first session, she quickly came to enjoy the activities offered and did not resist attending subsequent sessions. The music and art activities have been a highlight for my mother, who now even displays her creations at home.

The staff at CareLibrary, especially Ms. Han, went above and beyond to accommodate my mother’s transportation needs, and have been an invaluable resource for me as a caregiver. Ms. Han offered suggestions and options that have made caregiving a much easier experience for our family. The CareLibrary has provided my mother with an opportunity to engage in activities and not stay at home all day.

I am truly grateful for the positive impact CareLibrary has had on my mother and our family. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a caring and supportive environment for their loved ones.”
